- Top Ten Authors I Wish Would Write Another Book -
I thought I'd have a problem coming up with ten authors, but surprisingly I actually had more than ten, but just left it at regulation. I considered looking up when the last time these authors published, but that' for a few of them the last book was actually just in 2011. Some authors are still living, but for a few we'll likely only get a new book from them if something is discovered or a lost work is found. So, with that, and in no particular order, on with the list:
1. William Shakespeare (author of arguably the most celebrated plays in the literature, and Disney The Lion King (complete with new, happier ending!))
2. Elna Baker (author of The New York Regional Mormons Halloween Dance)
3. Haruki Murakami (author of Norwegian Wood, 1Q84, Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, etc.)
4. Steig Larson (author of the Millennium Trilogy, aka The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo)
5. A.D. Miller (author of 2011 Man-Booker Prize shortlisted Snowdrops)
6. Mac McCelland (author of For Us Surrender is Out of the Question: A Story From Burma's Never-Ending War)
7. Sarah Vowell (author of Party Cloudy Patriot, Assassination Vacation, etc.)
8. Marjane Satrapi (author of Persepolis)
9. Audrey Niffeneger (author of The Time Traveler's Wife and Her Fearful Symmetry)
10. Curtis Sittenfeld (author of Prep, American Wife)
Who's on your list? If you filled out this meme, post a link in the comment section. Any of these authors you disagree with me on? Until next time, happy reading.

You, my friend, are in love with Miss Elna!
Mark: Not so much as I thought the writing was good and the book was interesting and at times funny.
Amen to Curtis Sittenfeld!
nomadreader: :D I guess I could try going back and reading Man of My Dreams, but I don't think I even made it through the first chapter of that one...
When I want more Sittenfeld, I just re-read Prep..which at some point I need to actually review for this site!
Thanks for commenting.
I knew I'd see Shakespeare on a lot of lists. I love his comedies, but his histories and some of the dramas can become tedious (and are not, unfortunately, brief).
Has anyone read all of Shakespeare's works? I must confess that I enjoy seeing a Shakespeare play more than I enjoy reading one
Couch: Clever way to incorporate the name of the blog in that! :)
mark: I'm sure there are. I seem to remember having met someone (I forget whom) who had said they had read them all.
I'd personally really like to read them all. I've only seen the plays preformed twice. Thankfully I can hopefully see a few more this season at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
O Tedious One,
Before I forget, you really must read i> A Confederacy of Dunces <i by John Kennedy Toole. I really wish he would write another book but unfortunately he is dead (the Pulitzer was awarded to him posthumously). Hilarious book! It has a little of everything -- movie criticisms, attack on unions, political shenanigans, the problems of looking for a job, the gays, the straights, communists and it all takes place in the magical, mystical land known as New Orleans (pre-Katrina).
O Tedious One,
Now I get it. A Confederacy of Dunces
Mark: It's on my log list of things to read that people have suggested, but I have a number of things I really want and need to get to first. At some point in time it will be the right time for me to read it and I will.
Ya! You figured out basic html tags! :D
I'm not too familiar with most of these authors (except Shakespeare, of course) - maybe I'll have to try some of them out. My #1 pick for this list would be Patrick Ness. LOVE him.
Glad to have found you via the Hop!
Elna Baker! Huh. Definitely yes for Marjane Satrapi--though she still has a few that I haven't read yet.
I didn't read Niffeneger's or Sittenfeld's sophomore novels but loved both of their debuts. Were the follow ups as good? And Shakespeare, well you can't go wrong with him!
Tamara, 's Niffenege's second novel was good. I liked it, though it got a mixed review.
Sittenfeld's second novel was one that I only got a few pages in before I had to put down. Her third novelAmerican Wife was good/ok, but was basically a fictionalization of Laura Bush.
