Booking Through Thursday: What are you reading right now?

Brought to you by the blog Booking Through Thursday, this weeks' questions are:

What are you reading right now? What made you choose it? Are you enjoying it? Would you recommend it? (And, by all means, discuss everything, if you’re reading more than one thing!)

At the moment I have 4 books I'm currently "reading"  Granted, two of these are books I haven't picked up in a week or few, but I'm still considering myself reading them.

Speak - Laurie Halse Anderson
- Why did you choose it?   I actually have part of my review already written for this novel, including a large section about why I chose it.  Mostly due the events of the past week involving a call for the book to be banned in a Missouri school district and the utterly impassioned reviews of two book bloggers: Carolina Bookbinder and Liz at Consumed By Books
- Are you enjoying it? Yes!  I'm about 1/2 through and should be finishing it tonight or this weekend.
- Would you recommend it?  From what I've read so far, and what I've heard about the book: definitely.  And this is coming from someone who generally shys away from reading YA lit.

The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova
- Why did you choose it?   I remember when this book came out and seemed to be very popular.  I've heard some good things about it and mentioned it on here that I haven't read it but own a copy.  Coffee and a Book Chick also raved about it and we're currently co-hosting a read-a-long which started just this week.  The read-a-long's website is On the Ledge Readalongs, if you're interested in participating or chatting about the book.

- Are you enjoying it?  Yes.. I'm about 75 pages into it and I really like it so far.
- Would you recommend it?  As I'm co-hosting said readalong: definitely.

Grange House - Sarah Blake
- Why did you choose it?   I actually won a copy from Constance Reader's Guide to Throwing Books with Great Force.  I've had it since probably the spring, but decided to take it on vacation with me at the beginning of August.  Also, it's a bit of a gothic novel, which makes for a good read in the Autumn, I'm thinking.

- Are you enjoying it?  Yes and no.  It's interesting, but a bit slow in that Blake's language makes it impossible to skim or plow though.  It kinda reminds me of trying to read Jane Austin.
- Would you recommend it?  I'm not done with it yet, so I dunno.

The Rose Variations - Marisha Chamberlain
- Why did you choose it?   The cover art.  A girl carrying a cello on a bicycle.  What more be said?  I figured it be similar to Mona Lisa Smiles from the jacket.

- Are you enjoying it?  Yes, but a few other things have stepped up and moved it towards the back of the currently reading pile.  I'll likely not finish it before having to take it back to the library, but I can always check it out again...and probably will.
- Would you recommend it?  Let me finish it before asking me!

I don't know why I haven't read Speak yet -- I can't wait to pick that one up!

And I'm so excited for the first chat on Sunday!! Of course, anyone can join at any time, so I'm really looking forward to all the upcoming Sundays through Halloween!
