Bonjour Tristesse - Françoise Sagan
Cécile is a precious 17-year old spending her summer at a rented house on the sea with her 40-year-old widowed father. Her father is a playboy and has had a string of lovers since Cécile's mother died fifteen years prior. Along with them on this trip is Elsa, her father's current mistress.
Once on holiday with her playboy father and his current mistress, Cécile falls for a local law student with a passion for sailing. Everything is going well until her father invites Anne, her mother's best friend and a sort-of personal idol of Cécile who helped Cécile after her mother's death. And once Anne arrives, everything changes, setting into effect a course of action to change all of their lives, especially that of Cécile.
Honestly, I can't remember which book blogger's page I was reading when I came across a review for another one of Sagan's novels, That Mad Ache; however, at the end of the novel, the reviewer suggested if you hadn't read any of Sagan before, read Bonjour Tristesse first.
Sagan published her debut novel, Bonjour Tristesse, in 1954 at the age of 18, which, having wanted to be a writer when I was younger, amazes me. It's well written and totally engrossing. I'm definitely going to look into her other novels as soon as my reading schedule will allow.
Rating: 5 of 5.

This one sounds like a really good read. It's on the best 1000 novels in some book that has a new edition out every few years.
I've heard quite a bit about this book - I think I have it here somewhere from Paperbackswap, so now I have to dig it out!
Yay I'm happy you liked it! I loved this book. I read it at the beginning of the summer and reviewed it here... maybe you came across it on my blog? http://literarymusings-blog.blogspot.com/2010/07/bonjour-tristesse-by-francoise-sagan.html
@ SH. I'm surprised that I hadn't heard of this novel beforehand.
@Coffee. I really, really liked it. So much that I probably will end up trying to find an old hardback copy for my personal library.
Brenna: That's where I heard of it, but from a later post you had on another of Sagan's books! Thank you for introducing her to me!
