When Courtney Stone, self -proclaimed Jane Austen addict, awakes one morning, she quickly realizes that something is wrong and she's not still in 21st Century L.A. Why is she sleeping in this fourposter bed that's not her own? Who is the women standing in front of her claiming to be her mother? Her voice is not her own, she doesn't look like herself, and everyone keeps calling her Jane!
Courtney quickly realizes that she somehow is in the body of Miss Jane Mansfield, a 30-year-old English women living in 1813. She has no knowledge of who Jane Mansfield, but she comprehends that possibly the only way out may very well be to play along as 19th Century Jane.
As I think I've mentioned before, I've never been able to finish reading all of a Jane Austen novel. I've tried Northanger Abbey and Emma, but the nearest I've gotten to finishing one is more than half way though Emma before putting it down one day and not being able to get back into the story. However, I still found this story enjoyable for the most part. A lot of the story deals with Courtney/Jane trying to understand who Jane is, how to navigate through the way of 1813 England, and trying to figure out how she switched bodies.
There of course are humorous moments, such as when Courtney/Jane speaks as if she's from the 21st Century or makes faux pas regarding etiquette and anachronisms. Sometimes, however Courtney seems a bit dim...such as when she asks if something is a "retirement home". Um...really? Courtney also looks through the Jane's life through the eyes of a feminist, which was welcomed as I always hate watching/reading the sexist (from a 20th/21st Century view) comments and actions.
However, Courtney/Jane can sometimes get annoying and the ending of the book left me confused as to what actually happened. I actually felt this story was too short and had wished that the author made it longer and went more in-depth with the characters and that the ending was a bit better . There is a sequel, which I'll be reading,
Rating: 3 of 5.

I really enjoyed this one, but I agree with you - it could have been longer, and I would have welcomed it!
I actually found the sequel better (but that's a post for a couple weeks from now.)
I think the ending in this one really killed it for me since I didn't catch what was going on at the end. I think this would make a really good series/miniseries though.
