Happy Blogiversary & Top Ten Tuesday

Happy Anniversary Blogiversary!

Today marks one year since I started with my first review on Tedious & Brief, which, I think in terms of the blogging world, is termed a blogiversary (or  "blogoversary", but that spelling reminds me a bit too much of a certain embattled former Illinois governor.)  Thank you to everyone who has been reading my reviews, giving me encouragement, and commenting!  New features are planned including an author list, possible cross over reviews, blogroll, blogtour postings, and a possibly a few giveaways.

If you've noticed a lack of regular reviews, reviews are coming, but slowly.   I had a couple of months where I wasn't able to read and blog nearly as much, but hopefully most of that will be behind me for a while and regular updates will be coming again soon.

Since today is also Tuesday, that mean's it's Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday, a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic, in honor of that blog also celebrating their one year anniversary this week is:

- Top Ten Reasons I Love Being A Book Blogger/Bookish Person -

This is going to be a short list since I've been so busy recently; however, I was able to think up 10!  Go me!

1. Reading allows me to gain knowledge and learn about places and things I wouldn't know about (or know as much about) otherwise.  Want to know about the life of a Russian Imperial Vodka manufacturer?  How about a 1980's trip in newly-opened-to-Western-tourists China?  How about what it's like to be a major art forger?  Want to know more about Burma and what it's like living among the refugees from there in Thailand?  All you have to do is read a book.

2. Reading is also a great form of escapism and show you stories that will entertain you, enrich you, and sometimes even inspire you.  In the past year of blogging and reading I've read about a young girl playing a battle royale game in post-apocalyptic America, a reporter and his more interesting hacker-punk source, the tale of a girl trying to keep a secret, and a correspondence between an artist and would-be lover among many others.

3. Blogging is a creative outlet to share your feelings on books (and films and other things) that you enjoy...or sometimes hated!

4. Learning about books I probably never would have gotten around to read before.  I'd never heard of Speak before I started blogging.  I'd heard of both The Hunger Games and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo but probably wouldn't have read them without first reading some great and interesting reviews online first.

5. Learning about authors I probably never would have heard of before.  Case in point: I originally heard about Françoise Sagan via another blogger's reviewing one of her books, which then lead me to reading Bonjour Tristesse, one of my favorite books from last year.

6. Meeting and interacting with other bookish people and bloggers. So, feel free to drop me a line.  Either comment on the blog or leave me an email.

Thanks for making it a great first year!

I hadn't heard of The Hunger Games before I started blogging and it's hard to believe now. I think there's suxh buzz about books in the blogosphere, I'm surprised when people irl don't know what I'm on about!

@ Lauren B Thank you!

@ Ellie: I had heard of it and seen it in the bookstore, but hadn't really looked at it much since it's YA and I generally don't read YA books. The plot also seemed very similar to a book I had read just a few years beforehand (children put in a lethal game to keep the population docile and entertained).

You bring up a good point about just because you've heard of certain books (for me The Hunger Games and especially Anna and the French Kiss) doesn't mean you would have read them without good buzz around the blogosphere. So true.

My ten reasons I love book blogging.
